Motivated by our faith in Jesus, Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry serves others as a demonstration of God’s unconditional love for all people. Our faith is at the heart of all we do.
In response to God’s call, the mission of Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry is to provide Hope, Help & Healing to those in most need through Service, Advocacy & Community Support.
Our vision is to work with each client to identify the factors keeping them in poverty and to set a plan in place that provides them with the hope and help needed to seek and find greater independence, self-reliance and personal healing.
Respond to God’s Call – To share the good news of Jesus Christ in serving others. Servant Leadership – To place the needs of others before our own. Compassion – To serve with a humble and gracious heart. Community Involvement – To reach our vision through partnerships and collaborations. Risk Taking – To have the courage to act on our convictions, take risks, and, when necessary, be willing to change.
HOPE. HELP. HEALING.
Since 1969, Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry has served as the area’s hub for providing and coordinating services for the uninsured and people and families in crisis, living in poverty and/or experiencing homelessness. Today, we remain a faith-based, volunteer driven organization providing a wide array of programs, services and solutions. People come to GHCCM seeking help with both simple and complex problems. They may need help with a past due electric bill or food for their family. They may need a blanket or backpack for their belongings, or they may be facing eviction from their home. After helping with immediate needs, we begin working on an individualized Wellness Recovery Action Plan (W.R.A.P.). This life, health and wellness assessment identifies a multitude of issues, including health problems, unsafe or substandard living environments, housing needs, employment, legal concerns, food insecurity, mental health, substance abuse, physical or emotional abuse, education, disability, special needs of children or family members, community and social networks, finances, faith and spiritual care. We are then able to further help coordinate services and programs, with the overall goal of increasing and improving a person’s emotional, financial and spiritual stability. Services for financial assistance for utilities and rent are also available as needed.
HELPING BY DOING WITH, NOT FOR.
With the belief that every person has the ability to achieve independence and self-sufficiency by connecting to a community network of friendship and support, GHCCM’s Navigators work alongside each client to navigate community programs and services that will help them and their families become more stable.
Volunteers are the core of our ministry! We have so many opportunities for individuals and groups to help and serve, whether for a few hours, one day each month or as a regular volunteer. If you have even an hour of extra time, we invite you to learn more by emailing info@ccmHickory.com.
